Welcome to the website for Platte River Academy (PRA), a K-8 Core Knowledge charter school located in Highlands Ranch. This website provides lots of information to the general public, our staff, and the PRA parent community. It has been created and designed to provide you the information that we have heard is important to you. Please enjoy discovering what PRA is really about as you surf our site.

Day Care

Highlands Ranch Learning Center

Your childs early years are a magical time. We recognize this and encourage your childs creativity and unique personality at all of our centers. Our experienced and qualified teachers create loving, supportive classroom environments to meet the needs of every child. Activities are adapted to meet the young childs growing curiosity and language development is encouraged in an environment rich with music, books and conversation with the little ones.

District

Douglas County Board of Education

The Board of Education is comprised of seven members representing different parts of the county. Members are elected at large and serve staggered terms of four years. The Board of Education meets twice monthly, except the months of January and July, on the first and third Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m. Variations to this schedule may occur, and Special Meetings may be scheduled as determined by the President of the Board. Please check the Meeting Agendas & Minutes link on this page to view meeting dates and times, agendas and minutes. Meetings are held at the Douglas County School District Wilcox Administration Building in the Board Room on the 3rd floor at 620 Wilcox Street in Castle Rock. Board members actively seek the advice and counsel of District residents. Citizens are encouraged to regularly attend Board meetings. Douglas County Public Schools

Douglas County occupies 860 square miles of space between Colorado's two main economic Centers: Denver and Colorado Springs. Douglas County School District maintains its position as a "lighthouse" district with many innovative programs and educational approaches.

Cougar Run Elementary School

Sand Creek Elementary School

Sand Creek has a very simple philosophy we use with our learning community known as Eagle Pride. Summit View Elementary provides an educational foundation that allows each student to reach his or her individual potential.

Trailblazer Elementary School

Trailblazer Elementary students receive direct instruction in each of the Core Virtues which are taken from Ernest L. Boyer's THE BASIC SCHOOL. Evidence of application of these virtues is noted on each student's report card. Student and staff develop their understanding of these virtues through structured lessons and frequent interaction with each other. These 7 virtues are emphasized to guide Trailblazer Elementary as it promotes excellence in living as well as learning. Most importantly, we want students to think about and to model these virtues daily.

Highlands Ranch Christian School

The Highlands Ranch campus is one of two K-8 campuses of the Denver Christian Schools. This location opened its doors as a K-6 school in 1988.
